Build 2026102674 is available for authorized Windows testing.

VunFisher 1.4.0 beta, with a published SHA-256, signed update metadata and a software bill of materials. It is not a certification: publisher code signing, enterprise-scale proof, external plugin bundles and Apply and Undo field acceptance remain outstanding, and Workgroup, Active Directory and Intune targets each need their own field receipt.

Install on your computer

Windows laptop, virtual machine or MacBook

VunFisher is a Windows application. On a Windows laptop install it directly. On a Mac, or to keep scanning separate from your daily computer, install it inside a Windows virtual machine.

Windows laptop

Windows laptop or desktop

  1. Use 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Suggested: 4 GB RAM and 2 GB free disk.
  2. Download the ZIP below and wait until it finishes.
  3. Right-click the ZIP, choose Extract All, open the folder.
  4. Double-click INSTALL.vbs, press Install VunFisher.
  5. The browser opens http://127.0.0.1:8787: create your account, then activate.
Windows inside a virtual machine window

Virtual machine (VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V)

  1. Create a Windows 11 or Windows 10 64-bit VM. Suggested: 2 CPUs, 4 GB RAM, 60 GB disk.
  2. Network: Bridged to scan other computers on your lab network; NAT is enough to scan the VM itself.
  3. Install the VM tools (VMware Tools or Guest Additions), then follow the Windows steps.
  4. Take a snapshot after installing so you can return to a clean state.
MacBook running a Windows virtual machine

MacBook

  1. There is no macOS version yet. Run VunFisher in a Windows virtual machine.
  2. Apple silicon (M1 to M4): use VMware Fusion, Parallels Desktop or UTM with Windows 11 on Arm.
  3. Intel Mac: use VMware Fusion, Parallels or VirtualBox with Windows 11 or 10 (64-bit).
  4. Inside Windows, follow the Windows steps. Choose bridged networking to scan other lab computers.

On Windows 11 on Arm, VunFisher runs through Windows' built-in x64 emulation. This has not yet been validated by TX Cyber; tell us if anything does not work.

What if the browser does not open after installing?

Open the TX VunFisher shortcut on the Desktop or Start menu, or go to http://127.0.0.1:8787 in your browser on the same computer.

I forgot my username or password. What now?

On the sign-in page choose Forgot username or password. In the Windows app, VunFisher saves a one-time code to a file in your VunFisher folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\TXCyber\VunFisher); type it to see your username and set a new password. If MFA is on you also need your authenticator or a recovery code.

Can I scan my own computer?

Yes. Choose the local assessment in New Scan. To scan another Windows computer with a sign-in (credentialed scan), first run the Target Setup Assistant on that computer.

Important tester sign-in

Run scans in the installed Windows app

Open the TX VunFisher Desktop shortcut and use http://127.0.0.1:8787. The local Windows account is separate from your txvf.tinkextra.com hosted-portal account. The hosted portal reviews uploaded results and manages Windows agents; it does not execute scans directly.

After enabling MFA, wait for Microsoft Authenticator to show the next six-digit code. The setup code is single use and cannot be reused for the first sign-in.

Four simple steps

Download. Install. Sign in. Activate.

  1. Download and extract the ZIP. Use 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Extract every file into a new folder; do not run setup inside the ZIP.
  2. Run INSTALL.vbs. Select Install VunFisher. Python and required libraries are included, so no separate Python installation is needed.
  3. Open the Desktop shortcut. Setup creates TX VunFisher shortcuts on your actual Windows Desktop and Start menu, including redirected or OneDrive desktops. Your browser also opens automatically after setup.
  4. Create your account and activate. Create the local administrator with a password of at least 6 characters that is not a common password, sign in, then enter the activation code emailed after you request free access and confirm your email address. First-run setup takes you directly to activation.

New scans require an active license. Existing accounts, licenses, saved credentials and reports are preserved during an update, with a verified database backup created first.

In PowerShell, run Get-FileHash .\VunFisher-Windows.zip -Algorithm SHA256. The complete value must match the value above. A match verifies file integrity; it does not replace publisher code signing.

Credential scan setup in four checkpoints

  1. Prepare the target. From the local app, open Platform > License, download Target Setup Assistant 0.3.0 and audit the authorized target. Resolve every STOP item through IT, Group Policy or Intune.
  2. Create the scanner profile. At Assessment > Credentials, create a Windows WinRM profile. Load the target account password in the protected credential flow. Never enter it in the assistant or website.
  3. Validate before scanning. Test Connection with the exact target address. Continue only when Authentication is SUCCESS and the target identity is correct. Full inventory normally requires ADMINISTRATOR and Evidence SUCCESS.
  4. Run and prove the result. Start Credentialed Windows Assessment, review authentication and coverage, record action, retest changes and export the report. PARTIAL coverage or zero findings does not prove the target is secure.

License questions

Can I activate after installation?

Yes. Install first, then activate whenever your license is issued. New scans require an active license.

When does my term begin?

Emailed codes start your 3-, 6- or 12-calendar-month term on first activation (UTC). Activate an unused code within 30 days of issue. Retrying or reinstalling does not extend the term. Previously issued offline licenses retain their stated dates.

What happens when it expires?

New scans stop being available. Existing reports remain accessible. Request a renewal and activate the new emailed code on the same installation.

Does an organization license cover several installations?

Each license is issued for one installation. Organization users work within that installation. Include the number of installations and deployment needs in your quote request.

Can I pay on this page?

Pricing is by quote. Choose a term to request free access directly on this website. Valid requests are approved automatically. No payment is collected or required by this flow.
